Bsafe
In 2007 Women’s Health Goulburn North East in partnership with Victoria Police were successful in obtaining 3 year funding from the National Community Crime Prevention Programme for the Bsafe Project in the Hume Region.
Bsafe is a personal alarm system for women and children escaping family violence. It offers a risk management option for victims of family violence where they have obtained an Intervention Order and where there is a risk of the Order being breached.
The system consists of a water-proof pendant which operates through the home telephone line. The pendant can be used in a normal house and garden. The system also includes a mobile unit which is similar to a mobile phone. The mobile unit consists of three buttons. When pressed the alarm is sent to the VitalCall response centre who will monitor and alert 000 for Police to respond.
Bsafe is designed to:
- Reduce the incidence of family violence within the community
- Improve safety and security
- Reduce fear of crime
- Improve response and risk assessment
- Facilitate early intervention and arrest repeat offenders
- Support victims within the judicial system
- Ensures victims have the option of remaining safely in their homes

The ENOUGH Campaign
The ENOUGH campaign, which uses the tagline "Family Violence. Victoria has had ENOUGH", aims to raise public awareness of family violence and the recent legislative reform.
In an effort to reduce the devastating impacts of family violence, the Victorian State Government has introduced the Family Violence Protection Act 2008. The new laws are designed to better protect those experiencing violence and make perpetrators more accountable for their violent behaviour.
In keeping with the ENOUGH campaign, The Family Violence Prevention Networks will implement six localised education projects. The projects, which will run throughout the Hume region, aim to create community awareness of family violence and the new laws.

Frontline to Recovery
The 2007 Family Violence Children’s Services Mapping Exercise was undertaken by the Central Hume Support Services, Children’s Resource Project. It was managed by the “Best Practice Interest Group for Children in Family Violence and Homelessness Services” ( Hume Region). The mapping exercise was undertaken to inform the development of a model of what an integrated service response ,to the needs of children would look like.
A model that would identify:
- current services available across the region
- the service sector’s ability to respond to the needs of children
- how to improve our services responses to children
The project supported Objective 1 of the Hume Region Integrated Family Violence Services Strategic Plan – Improve the relevance and effectiveness of service responses to children and young people affected by family/domestic violence.
From the mapping exercise, a report was produced and funding sought for further work on this project. A successful submission for funds to the The Collie Foundation and The Felton Bequest which is managed by ANZ Trustees, has allowed the development of the “Frontline to Recovery” project.
The aim of the project is to develop a good practice framework for responses to children who have experienced family violence. The focus is on SAAP funded service responses to children from first point of contact (frontline) to therapeutic healing (recovery). A project worker has been appointed to conduct consultations with a wide number of stakeholders on service responses to children.
